2014 ACADEMIC BOWL!!

The 2014 Charlo Academic Bowl season was a very fun and a great learning experience.  Our team consisted of Taylor Olsen, Allie Delaney, Kaitlin Cox, Shad Anderson, Toby Odom, Vanessa Kent, Sabin Perry, Brooklyn Foust, Brady Fryberger, Bailey Weible, Aislynn Love, and Wills DeGrandpre.  The four teams in the competition were Charlo, Mission, Polson, and Ronan.  There were four competitions, each time located at one of the team's schools.  At each meet, first the teams would come in, eat some snacks, and get settled in.  After that, we would be welcomed by the hosting school.  Then we would take written tests as a team at a specific table and take tests in math, English, science, history, and logic.  Personally, logic is the hardest at least in my opinion.  When we finished the written tests, which was timed for about an hour and a half, they would be scored and out on a bulletin board for everyone to view.  Then, the oral rounds came where two teams would sit at opposite tables.  Each member of each team would have handheld buzzers, and an announcer would ask random questions for the teams to compete by answering the quickest.  There are six oral rounds where each team would have a chance to compete against every team.  After the third round we would have a lunch break and the hosting school would feed each of the four academic bowl teams.  After we finish each oral round we add up the scores and we had a winner at each meet.  After the four meets we added up our scores throughout the whole season.  In the end, Polson won, Mission got second, and Charlo (us) got third by about twenty points which was very close, and then Ronan got last.  We have been improving so we had a successful season!!!! :)

We have like maybe a week left of school, and truthfully I'm trying not to get lazy with my homework...... It's not exactly working very well. I hate the fact that I'm kinda being lazy but at the same time I really don't give a rip because we don't really have much left for school! The only real thing to do is wrap up and have party-rific summer! I seriously can't wait to stop acting like a nerd! Good grades and super strict rules will all go down the drain and be forgotten in 10 days. :)

Expanding your horizons!!

Do you  like science? We'll some girls at our school do.  Earlier this year a group of girls participated in the program called, "Expanding Your Horizons."  This is a program for girls who are interested in science, math, technology, and engineering.  This program is hosted by MSU in Bozeman, Montana.  Your group guides are college girls from the university.  The motto of this program is the acronym S.T.E.M which stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math.  There is a whole variety of activities and there are numerous groups.  Each group had a different set of activities planned out for the day.  Some of these activities included origami math, archaeology, magnet math, engineering safe drinking water, and using DNA to improve livestock production.  They host this program annually me have a new subject or theme every year.  The subject of this year, 2014, was nanotechnology.  This program encouraged young girls to take interest and change the world!! This program normally occurs at the beginning of April.  Also, lunch is provided and other small fun activities.  This also creates a chance for young girls to meet new people! I believe this program really expanded the interest in the works of S.T.E.M for many girls! I mean it says it in the title!! I would recommend this program for all girls especially if you are interested in the world of science!!

Hi dudes and duvets I'm Nicholas Daugherty, I am a farmer that raises goats for a living.  I own 40 goats, just right know because our does are having babies.  I own 30 chickens, 15 horses, 3 dogs,  2 cats, and a very very fat pig. What up beat that.  I do football and track for sports.  I like being outside.  Thank for looking at this blog.
Charlo is located in Charlo Montana, this blog was created for one of the middle school focus groups.     Mrs. Cox is our English and Spanish teacher and she helped this focus group create this blog to explore technology and this is also to help improve our writing skills.  A focus group is a mixture of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders so we can help improve our vocabulary and overcome our struggles with certain subjects. Since we Are nearing the end of the school year then we are currently creating these blogs for a creative and fun project.  We will be posting topics about our sports, projects, upcoming events, and other extracurricular activities. :)
